At Houston Equipment Repair, we believe in providing clear, straightforward information—without the high-pressure sales tactics or gimmicks. Our goal is to help you make an informed decision that fits your needs and budget, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience from start to finish.
If you’re looking for a quick and accurate quote, complete our online form and upload the requested photo. Once we receive your submission, our team will review the details and provide a written quote and installation site plan within 3 to 5 business days.
We don’t believe in high-pressure sales tactics so we don't hire sales people. We understand that some customers may prefer a personal review of the generator placement and installation process, so if that’s the case, we’re happy to arrange an appointment to visit and go over all the details with you.
Stop by our Generator Showroom in Tomball for a personalized consultation with one of our owners. This is the perfect opportunity to see the equipment up close, ask questions, and get a feel for which generator best fits your needs. We’ll walk you through the features and benefits, helping you make an informed decision before you buy.
To move forward with scheduling your generator installation, an approved quote and paid deposit are required. Once these steps are completed, we can confirm your installation date and begin preparing for the seamless setup of your new generator.
We want to ensure you fully understand what’s needed to prepare for your generator installation. Our goal is to keep you informed and ready so the entire process goes as smoothly as possible.
While we do not handle HOA approvals directly, we’re happy to provide you with the necessary documentation to support your application. Your Site Plan was included with your quote, and the Specification Sheets are linked below. If any other information is needed, please let us know and we would be happy to assist.
We recommend beginning the HOA approval process as soon as you’ve approved your site plan to help prevent any delays in your generator installation.
Permits are only required if you live within the defined geographic limits of a city (e.g., City of Houston, City of Conroe). Houston Equipment Repair will take care of submitting all necessary permits for your home, ensuring full compliance with local regulations.
Important: Please provide a survey of your property to help us confirm that the generator location complies with all relevant permit regulations.
Because concrete work is weather-dependent, we can only schedule your generator slab installation a few days in advance. We pour multiple slabs each day, so we’re unable to provide an exact arrival time.
Please note: You do not need to be home during the slab installation.
It's important to remember that changes to the generator location cannot be made at or during the slab pour. If you need to request a location change, please contact us as soon as possible.
We have hundreds of generators successfully running on standard gas meter sizes, so an upgrade is not always required. However, there are specific situations where a gas meter upgrade will be necessary:
In these cases, additional parts are required on our end at a cost of $350 + tax. Unless this has been specifically included in your quote, these parts have not yet been added to your installation.
If you plan to have your gas meter upgraded, and the Meter Upgrade Prep Fee has not already been added to your quote, please let us know as soon as possible. This will allow us to be fully prepared with the proper materials for your installation.
To ensure a smooth installation process, please take the following steps:
Because there are several moving parts involved in the process, we will contact you one week prior to your installation to review and finalize all necessary details.
When we reach out the week prior to your installation, we’ll also confirm any enhancement options you’d like to include. These may include:
If you were unsure about including any of the enhancement options when you signed your quote, we encourage you to take some time now to review their benefits. This will help us ensure that we have the necessary products in stock and ready for your installation. Visit our Generator Installation Enhancements page for more details.
Payment is due on the day of installation, and we offer several payment options for your convenience:
Accepted Payment Methods:
If you’re interested in financing your generator purchase, you can apply through Synchrony Financial by clicking the link below.
Financing Options Include:
Wi-Fi monitoring is included for one year with our standard standby generator installation package. This feature allows your generator to connect to your home’s 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network using the onboard control panel.
To complete the setup during installation, you’ll need to provide your Wi-Fi network name and password. Your lead installer will use this information to connect the generator to your network—it is only accessed during your installation appointment.
Important Notes:
Before your generator installation can proceed, approval is required for the transfer switch from CenterPoint Energy. This ensures the proper integration of your generator into your electrical system and will be handled by Houston Equipment Repair.
To submit the approval request, we will need your electric meter number, which can be found on the front of your electric meter. An example will be shown on the Final Details Form for reference when your are completing the form.
Entergy, Mid-South, and other electric providers do not require approval.
We strive to provide you with as much information upfront as possible, so you know exactly what to expect on generator installation day. Please take the time to thoroughly read the following details and share them with all members of your household.
Standard installations typically take between 4-5 hours from our arrival time.
If “Extra Distance” charges are listed on your quote, please note that the installation may take longer due to the increased distance involved.
For the safety and efficiency of the installation, someone 18 years or older must be home during the entire generator installation. This ensures that we can review any last-minute details with you, address any questions you may have, and provide you with important operational information once the installation is complete. It also allows us to access areas of your home, such as the electric panel, if needed.
During the generator installation, we will need access to the electric panel, whether that is inside your home, garage, or another area.
If your quote indicates that electric will be run through the attic, we will also need access to the attic for the entire duration of the installation.
Additionally, once the gas is turned back on, we will need to access any gas-powered appliances such as the water heater, gas fireplace, or other similar units to relight the pilot lights.
At Houston Equipment Repair, we make the process easy by handling your generator registration for you. Once your installation is complete, we will ensure that your generator is registered with Generac.
After the generator is installed, our team will run the generator for a couple of minutes to ensure that all electric and gas connections are secure and functioning properly. We will also:
If you purchased the Smart Start Service, we will leave the generator running with the full load of your home and show you how to manually turn off the generator once the 25-hour period is complete.
Once your generator is installed, our commitment to you doesn’t end there. We offer ongoing support to ensure your generator continues to perform at its best. Whether you have questions about maintenance or need technical assistance, we’re here for you.
If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding your generator, please don’t hesitate to contact us right away. Our team is always here to assist you and ensure your generator is running smoothly.
Break-In Maintenance
After the initial installation, a generator requires break-in maintenance within the first 25 hours of run time. This service helps extend the life of your generator by clearing out initial contaminants and confirming the system is operating smoothly from the start. Our Smart Start Service ensures your new generator is fully optimized and ready to perform from day one.
Annual Maintenance
To keep your generator running reliably year after year, annual maintenance is essential. Regular maintenance helps prevent unexpected failures, ensures peak performance, and keeps your manufacturer warranty valid.
As an Authorized Generac Warranty Partner, Houston Equipment Repair is fully certified to perform all warranty-related service and repairs on your Generac home standby generator.
