BREAK-IN SERVICE

What is a Break-In Service?

A break-in service is the essential first maintenance for your new generator after its initial run time. It includes changing the oil and filter, adjusting the valves, inspecting key components, and removing any metal particles that accumulate as engine parts settle.

When Does It Happen?

This service must be performed at 25 hours of run time, immediately following the break-in period. It’s the very first scheduled maintenance to ensure your generator starts strong. Our Smart Start Service accelerates this timeline to ensure your generator is ready to run for up to 200 hours.

Why Is It Important?

The break-in service is critical because during the first 25 hours, the engine’s moving parts wear in and release tiny metal debris into the oil. If this isn’t removed promptly:

  • It can cause premature engine wear and damage
  • Reduce your generator’s performance and reliability
  • Shorten its overall lifespan
  • Void your manufacturer’s warranty if missed

Completing the break-in service on time protects your investment and sets your generator up for long-term, dependable operation—ensuring you’re ready when the power goes out.

SMART START SERVICE

What is Smart Start Service?

Smart Start Service is a specialized procedure that fast-tracks your new generator’s break-in process. It involves running the generator under controlled conditions to simulate extended use, allowing the engine to settle properly before an actual power outage.

When Should You Get It?

This service is scheduled a few days after the generator installation—well before you need to rely on your generator during an outage.

Why is Smart Start Service Important?

Without proper break-in, new generators aren’t ready for long, continuous use.

Smart Start Service:

  • Ensures the engine components properly seat and wear in
  • Removes harmful metal particles early, reducing wear
  • Increases reliability during extended outages—up to 200 hours of run time
  • Prevents unexpected failures when power is critical
  • Helps maintain your warranty by following manufacturer guidelines

How does it work?

After Installation:

We run your generator continuously for 25 hours under full home load. This controlled break-in allows the engine to settle, circulate oil, clear metal debris, and form proper seals—while identifying any factory issues early.

Completion of Test Run:

You’ll then switch back to utility power, letting the generator cool down to protect internal parts and prepare it for a thorough inspection.

Break-In Service:

A certified Generac technician performs the critical 25-hour break-in service, including an oil change, valve adjustment, and system inspection. See our service checklist for more details.

24/7 MONITORING

What is 24/7 Generator Monitoring?

24/7 monitoring is a remote system that continuously tracks the status, performance, and health of your standby generator. It alerts both you and our service team of any issues—such as low battery, missed exercise cycles, or faults—before they turn into problems.

Important Notes:

  • Monitoring is only available for Generac Standby Generators
  • Only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks are supported (not 5 GHz).
  • A strong and stable signal near the generator location is important for consistent monitoring.
  • If the generator is too far from the router, a Wi-Fi range extender may be needed.
  • Cellular Monitoring Modules are available for an additional fee. See pricing below.

When is Monitoring Active?

Monitoring is always on, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The system begins working as soon as your generator is installed and connected to the monitoring service. Renewing your monitoring subscription every year means we're keeping a constant eye on your unit even when you're not home.

Why is 24/7 Monitoring Important?

With real-time insights and alerts, 24/7 monitoring helps you:

  • Catch issues before they cause a failure during an outage
  • Avoid costly repairs with early intervention
  • Ensure your generator exercises regularly and stays ready
  • Enjoy peace of mind knowing your generator is always being watched
  • Reduce downtime by allowing faster, targeted service if needed

Don’t wait until the lights go out to find out there’s a problem. Let us monitor your generator around the clock so it’s ready when you need it most.
